The first release (March 2014) got 9100 visitors in a matter of hours thanks to Hacker News, Twitter and some small media outlets. For 2 days, the usage of the site was going as planned (daily 150 active users). People were starting debates, writing opinions and commenting. But on the third day after launch everything stopped. There were no new signups and the activity on the site was nearing zero. Since then the whole thing has been on hiatus, managing about 5-10 visitors a day with no engagement and 100% bounce rate. There has been no retention since then either.
Now is the time I have some free time.
This is why after one and a half year of no development and marketing, I am in process of revamping the whole site.
From now on ChilledLime will be focused on poll creation. There are loads of poll creators that don't require signup (ex. strawpoll.me, boll.co). They work nicely to some extent. You create a fully text based poll and vote on segments of texts. URLs aren't dynamic. No image, video or audio embedding. Of course this could be solved with Embed.ly embeds, but I'm afraid their plans are freaking expensive.
This is why I am developing a technology which makes embeddding rich content into polls seamless. It's not easy to abide by the unique embed methods big services use. But I am working on it one-by-one, service-by-service.
ChilledLime is going to be a place where people can create minimalist polls with rich embedded content. Launching on the 27th of November.
Main things:
- The old version will be discontinued as of November 27th 2015.
- The new site will not require registration/login.
- The focus is on the UX.
- It will have a beautiful and minimalist design.
